About OurTools.in

Free, fast, private online tools — built in India for the world.

Why I Built OurTools.in

I'm Akash, and I do a lot of freelance work from Prayagraj. For a while, I was spending way too much time every morning just fighting with tools — hitting SmallPDF's daily limit at 8 AM, getting iLovePDF watermarks on documents I was about to send to clients, signing up for yet another account just to resize a single image. It added up to real frustration.

The tools that existed were either paywalled, buried under ads, or required an account before you could do anything useful. Most of them uploaded your files to their servers — which is a legitimate concern when you're handling client PDFs, Aadhaar cards, salary slips, or anything sensitive. I didn't want my files on someone else's server for a task as simple as compressing a PDF.

So in early 2026, I decided to build the toolkit I actually wanted to use. No daily limits. No watermarks. No signup walls. No uploading your files to anyone else's computer. Everything runs in your browser, on your own device, using JavaScript. I launched OurTools.in, kept adding tools based on what I needed, and then based on what people asked for.

It started as a personal project. Now it's something I work on every week, because people actually use it and it genuinely saves them time.

What Makes OurTools Different

Privacy-first, by design. When you compress a PDF on this site, that PDF never leaves your device. The compression happens using pdf-lib running locally in JavaScript, inside your browser tab. When you edit an image, the Canvas API does the work on your machine. For most video tools, FFmpeg.wasm processes the file entirely in your browser. Your files never touch my servers — I haven't built any servers to handle them, and that's intentional.

55+ tools, genuinely free. PDF tools, image tools, video tools, text utilities, calculators, QR generators, astrology tools — all free, with no hidden "pro" tier for basic features. The site makes money from ads, which is what keeps it running. That's the entire business model, and it's honest about it.

Built for Indian internet. I built OurTools for the kind of connection I have in Prayagraj — not Silicon Valley fiber. The tools are lightweight, built with vanilla JavaScript, no bloated frameworks, no 5 MB bundles to download before anything loads. They work on 4G. They work on phones. I've also added tools specifically for Indian users: Aadhaar-friendly PDF compression, UPI QR code generation, Vedic astrology tools, and text tools built around how we actually write in India.

Honest about what it can and can't do. Browser-based video compression can't match server-side encoding quality. Some tools have file size limits because of browser memory constraints. I note these where they matter rather than letting you discover them after wasting ten minutes.

The Person Behind It

I'm Akash — indie developer, based in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. I'm self-taught, which means most of what I know came from building things that broke and then figuring out why they broke.

I like building things that are genuinely useful to real people — not products designed primarily to extract subscription fees. OurTools.in is the clearest expression of that: every tool here is free, runs entirely in your browser, and doesn't ask you to sign up for anything.

I'm not a company. I'm one person who got tired of tools that waste your time. If something on this site isn't working, or you have an idea for a tool that would actually help you, I read every email and respond to most of them.

What's Next

OurTools currently has 55+ tools and I add new ones regularly. New tools get built based on community requests — you can submit a request and vote on others. The most-requested tools get built first.

A mobile app is in the works for when you need a tool and don't want to open a browser. If you want to follow along, bookmark the site or drop me an email.

The site will always be free. The privacy architecture won't change. And it'll always be made in India.

Have a question or a tool idea? I'd love to hear from you.
