Why We Built OurTools.in

We're a small team from Prayagraj, and like most people doing freelance work, we used to waste time fighting with tools every morning. Hitting SmallPDF's daily limit at 8 AM. Getting iLovePDF watermarks on documents that were about to go to a client. Signing up for yet another account just to resize one image. It gets old.

The tools that existed were mostly paywalled, buried under ads, or wouldn't let you do anything useful until you'd signed up. And most of them uploaded your files to their servers. That's a real concern when you're handling client PDFs, Aadhaar cards, salary slips, anything private.

So in early 2026, we built the toolkit we actually wanted. No daily limits. No watermarks. No signup walls. We launched OurTools.in and kept adding tools based on what we needed, then based on what people asked for.

It started as something we built for ourselves. Now it's something we work on every week, because people actually use it and it saves them real time.

What Makes OurTools Different

The biggest thing for us was privacy. When you compress a PDF or resize an image on OurTools, that file stays on your device. The processing happens using JavaScript inside your browser tab — nothing gets uploaded, nothing touches our servers. Most of what we do works this way: text tools, image tools, QR generators, calculators, most PDF work.

A handful of tools are exceptions. Video compression, audio extraction, and a few other intensive tasks do process files on our server, because browsers genuinely can't handle that kind of work on-device. Files get deleted right after download. We put a notice at the top of every server-processing tool, so you always know which is which.

Everything's free. PDF tools, image tools, video tools, text utilities, calculators, QR generators, astrology tools — no hidden pro tier for basic features. The site runs on ad revenue. That's the whole model.

We also cared about performance. OurTools is built with vanilla JavaScript — no heavy frameworks, no 5 MB bundle loading before anything happens. It works on a phone. It works on 4G. That matters in India, where most people aren't browsing on fiber. We've also built tools specifically for Indian users: Aadhaar-compatible PDF compression, UPI QR generation, Vedic astrology tools, text utilities built around how people actually write here.

One honest note: some tools have file size limits because of real browser memory constraints. We flag these upfront rather than letting you find out after ten minutes.

The Team

We're a small indie team based in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Mostly self-taught, which means a lot of what we know came from building things that broke and spending too long figuring out why.

We like building things that are actually useful, not products designed to extract monthly subscription fees. OurTools is basically what that looks like in practice.

We're a small team, not a company with a support queue. If something on this site isn't working, or you have an idea for a tool that would save you real time, just email us. We read everything and reply to most of it.

What's Next

We're at 55+ tools now and adding more regularly. What gets built next comes mostly from community requests — you can submit a request and vote on others. We actually look at that list.

The site stays free. The privacy architecture doesn't change. And it'll always be made in India.
